Anybody who wants to experience Italy at its finest must travel to Genoa. The Mediterranean port city boasts a long history rooted in its geography and role in global trade. The birthplace of Christopher Columbus, the city was once the most powerful and wealthiest maritime republics in Medieval Europe.

Fast forward a several centuries and Genoa remains a hub of international business and trade, located in what is dubbed the Industrial Triangle of Italy. Apart from its economic significance, the city is also a showcase of the country’s rich cultural and architectural treasures.
“Right now, we offer a lot of cultural activities within the city with a lot of architectural sights and beautiful pieces of art. At the same time, we are developing business via three major points: logistics, high tech, and tourism,” Mayor Marco Bucci told GMI POST.
“2022 was really a good year for us. We have been growing in terms of GDP. We are growing in terms of jobs and also in terms of population. We were very successful and we expect in 2023 to be even more so. Everything is very nice here, including the climate. Of course, we are famous for having a very good quality of life,” Bucci added.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic was difficult for the entire world, Genoa has since bounced back. The city continues to welcome businesses that want to invest in the area and make sure that they thrive by improving infrastructure and minimizing the paperwork that often turns off potential investors.
Among the well-known Japanese companies that succeeded in Genoa are Toshiba, Canon, and Hitachi. According to Bucci, quality of life was the top reason cited by businesses that set up operations in the city.
“We offer experience. You don't come to Genoa, then just leave. When you are here, you get an unforgettable experience. Even if you stay for just a couple of days, you still experience a way of living that is very different from that in other places. Here, you can enjoy the people. You can enjoy the food. You can enjoy life,” Bucci said.
